08 Jul Eurotunnel & Ferry Competition
Following the decision by the Competition Commission to prohibit Groupe Eurotunnel from operating a ferry activity from the port of Dover, the company has announced that it will appeal this decision which the group finds incomprehensible and seriously disproportionate. Amongst the reasons it gives are its belief that the decision restructures the maritime activity across the Straits of Dover into a duopoly, thereby disadvantaging consumers.
It could have added that the reduction in competition might impact hauliers and exporters as presumably the implications would be the same. A reduction in supply could of course result in an increase in price over time. It remains to be seen whether the appeal will succeed and what will happen in the ferry market over time.
Supplychain21 continues to work hard to resist increases in price fromĀ our suppliers and to hold down costs for our customers. If you would like us to help use our network to reduce your haulage costs, please contact us at mail@supplychain21.com or on 01858 451781
