30 Apr Over-capacity in Container Fleet
Shipping intelligence consultants Alphaliner have reported that the world’s active container ship fleet has reached 15 million teu capacity. This new ‘high’ is as a result of the arrival of new ships and the return to service of previously mothballed shipping after eight months of reducing provision of ship capacity. This extra capacity has not been fully met by increasing demand as the world economy has struggled against recent head winds. Supplychain21 has been able to improve pricing on some routes for its customers as a result of the over-capacity.
